ABOUT

Welcome to the official website of the Protect Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Cup, the premier competition in Victoria for the sport of wheelchair rugby.

ABOUT WHEELCHAIR RUGBY

Also known as 'Murderball', wheelchair rugby is the toughest sport on wheels! Physically demanding and played in eight minute quarters, it is a fast-paced, tactical, full-contact game for people with quadriplegia or an impairment in all four of their limbs.

Players use their chairs, which are specifically designed for the sport, to block or hold their opponents.

Played indoors on a hard floor basketball court, teams of four players work together to carry, throw, dribble and pass a ball over the opposition's baseline to score.

Despite its intensity, wheelchair rugby is a family-friendly and accessible sport that both men and women can play. Exciting for both players and spectators alike, it incorporates elements of several sports including ice hockey style checking, the rules of rugby and football, and the use of a volleyball.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED

A pathway exists for participants to compete in wheelchair rugby at all levels Victoria.

If you want to learn how to play wheelchair rugby, come along to a Wednesday night training session at the Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre.

We run weekly training sessions for those just beginning, or those who are keen to compete in the Protect Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Cup.
